THE FRUITS OF THE EARTH

Persephone is the Ancient Greek Queen of the Underworld and daughter of Demeter, the goddess of agriculture and the harvest. The myth of her descent into the underworld each fall and return each spring symbolizes the push and pull of growth and dormancy, the life-death-rebirth cycle, and the natural forces that underpin the changing of the seasons that farmers simultaneously struggle with and depend upon.

At Persephone Wine & Cider Bar, we start with the fundamental recognition that wine and cider are first and foremost agricultural products - made from the literal fruits of the labor of hardworking farmers, transformed by the alchemy of fermentation under the guiding hand of wine- and cider-makers into the mystical beverages we all enjoy so much. We strive to find and offer wines and ciders of place, craft, and connection to the land, made from fruits grown with a care for the earth, prioritizing those grown organically and biodynamically.

Join us in raising a glass to all the hardworking, dedicated farmers, vignerons, winemakers, and cider makers out there struggling against the seasons and the weather to bring in the vintage and make it good. Cheers!
